Screening and Interviewing – Observe and Listen

« Return to search

Watch as Cris Perez models how to monitor a client’s body language to ensure they remain comfortable and engaged during the interview while continuing to screen for labor trafficking by asking clarifying questions as the survivor tells their story. This video emphasizes the importance of observing signs of discomfort or dissociation, as providers should always be ready to help ground and reconnect survivors who become overwhelmed or nonresponsive.

Remember, any work scenario can become a labor trafficking situation once force, fraud, or coercion is used, regardless of pay or perceived severity of the crime. By inquiring about initial promises, workload, breaks, pay details, and emotional and physical well-being, you can identify labor trafficking or other labor abuses.

Be sure to check out all four videos in this series for a full example of a screening interview. Watch Cris’s webinar on “Screening and Interviewing”, and view additional resources in our “Labor Trafficking Service Delivery” series
