Watch as Cris Perez demonstrates a client-driven screening interview blending natural conversation, attentive listening, and screening questions to identify labor trafficking Cris empowers the client while gaining information necessary to the agency for service provision. This method, while more time-consuming, significantly enhances client safety, helps build rapport, and encourages clients to share their stories as they see fit. Cris prepares the survivor for notetaking and reassures her of his investment in her needs. By starting with the client’s priorities, Cris showcases how to gain information while providing psychoeducation, which can help clients identify and name their own experiences.
Remember to screen clients to the lowest threshold for service entry and prioritize their needs. Depending on your program resources, mandates, and priorities, it may even be okay to take breaks or continue conversations after the individual has had time to relax and get some sleep.
